Why would you want to come to Leiden? Our university was founded in 1575 and is one of Europe’s leading international research-intensive universities and the oldest university of The Netherlands. It is situated near Amsterdam (30 minutes), The Hague (15 minutes) and Rotterdam (35 minutes).

The city is famous for its alms-houses, university, museums and glorious history. The spirit of the Golden Age lives on here, a place where Rembrandt was born and inspired so many other influential painters. But even after this era Leiden continued to attract scientists, artists and industry. The canals, the historical buildings, the alleyways, the treasuries of knowledge, culture and science: Leiden is definitely worth seeing.
